Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about skin checks, appointments, procedures and what to expect at Dermadocs Skin Cancer Clinic in Parkside, Adelaide.

No – you do not need a referral to be seen by one of our doctors at Dermadocs. This makes it easier and quicker for you to book a skin check without needing to see your GP first.

  • A full body skin check typically takes 30–40 minutes.
  • A spot check (for specific areas of concern) may take up to 20 minutes.
  • If it’s your first visit, allow extra time to complete any paperwork.

Your doctor will start by discussing your personal and family history, including sun exposure and any concerns you have.
You may be asked to undress so your clinician can examine your entire skin surface.

Using a dermatoscope, your doctor will carefully check skin on the face, ears, scalp, neck, arms, torso, legs, between toes and on the soles of your feet.

If needed, photographs of lesions are taken for future comparison.

  • Spot Check: Focused on a specific mole or lesion that concerns you.
  • Full Body Check: A thorough examination of all skin regions from head to toe.

Yes. Dermadocs keeps photographic records for future reference, helping us track changes or developments over time.

You may be asked to dress down if it is a full body skin check or if lesions are in areas that need detailed assessment. Female and male doctors are available for your comfort.

Your doctor will discuss options with you, including:

  • Biopsy to test the lesion for cancer
  • Recommended treatment or removal
  • Scheduling a follow-up appointment

If time permits, a biopsy can sometimes be done immediately on-site.

This depends on the doctor’s assessment and timing. When possible, biopsies can be performed during your initial visit. If not, a separate appointment may be scheduled.

If a skin cancer is found:

  • Your doctor will discuss the diagnosis and recommend next steps.
  • A referral to specialist care will be provided if required.
  • Your regular GP will be informed for ongoing management if needed.

Follow-up timing varies:

  • A routine review is normally scheduled 6–12 months after your last visit.
  • After a biopsy or surgical procedure, you’ll usually return about 2 weeks later for review or stitch removal as applicable.

No – the doctors at Dermadocs are general practitioners with specialised training in skin cancer detection and minor surgical procedures, including biopsies.

Dermatologists often have long wait times and higher costs. Dermadocs aims to make skin checks more accessible and affordable while maintaining high standards of care.

No. Dermadocs focuses on skin cancer detection and management only. Cosmetic services are not offered as part of our core clinic services. Note that Sclerotherapy treatments have been introduced more recently and may be available separately.
